VComm S/W VOX

ID:  2045

Object Description

The VComm S/W VOX object can be used in conjunction with VComm Radio Objects to allow Voice Operated Switching (VOX) on a given headset. This object is very handy for voice transmission without having to use a radio or intercom's PTT. When activated, it will in fact, disable the PTT.

There are a few characteristics involving the use of the VComm S/W VOX object worth noting:

  1. The PTT pin of the intercom/radio must be OFF before the VOX can be turned on via its ENABLE pin.

  2. If the VOX is enabled, the PTT of the intercom/radio becomes inoperative.

  3. If the VOX is attached to a radio and radio power is cycled (i.e., turned OFF and back ON), the VOX's ENABLE pin must be cycled also.

To use the object, simply connect the output handle of a intercom/radio object to the radio handle input of this object. The data collected on the input pins is sent to the radio/intercom object and can be changed while V+ is running.

Input Pins

H

Radio handle from either the VComm GENERIC Radio, V8 DIS Only or VComm GENERIC Radio, V8 DIS/HLA radio objects.

ENABLE

The ENABLE pin controls the VOX circuit. A value of 0 disables VOX. Any non-zero value enables it.

SENSE

The SENSE pin accepts a floating point number which is used to adjust the sensitivity of the voice activation. A value of 0.0 is the least sensitive and a value of 1.0 is the most sensitive. In other words, the lowest threshold for activation is 1, and the highest 0.

Range: 0.0 to 1.0.

Static Data

off delay

This pin specifies the amount of time it takes to deactivate the circuit after the audio input has dropped below the sensitivity level.

Units: Milliseconds

Range: Any floating point number greater than 0.

Example

The figure below presents an example of how the VComm S/W VOX object is used. The object has been enabled with a sensitivity setting of 0.75. The off delay static data is set to 500 milliseconds.
